Amitabh Bachchan to plays Deepika Padukone's dad?

Back in 2011, Deepika Padukone played the daughter to Amitabh Bachchan’s turn as a college principal in the Prakash Jha-directed film, Aarakshan.

From then to now, Deepika has proven that she’s more than just a pretty face.

The year 2013 saw her emerge as Bollywood’s most bankable female star (thanks to four back-to-back Rs. 100-crore grossers).

Naturally, conjecture over her next has been rife. She’s been speculated to star in the Salman Khan-starrer Bade Bhaiyya, Karan Johar’s Shuddhi and the next Aamir Khan-starrer.

However, the first film she signs in 2014 may be none of the above.

We have learnt that Shoojit Sircar has officially approached Deepika for his next, Piku, also starring Bachchan and Irrfan Khan. "Deepika has heard the script, and is impressed with it. Although she is yet to sign the film, in all likelihood, she is doing it," says an insider close to the actor.

Shoojit’s film is a character-driven father-daughter story. The insider adds, "Deepika’s part is very strong, and that’s what she is looking to take up at this stage of her career."

While Deepika couldn’t be reached for comment, Sircar remains non-committal. "Nothing is confirmed right now. At the moment, my entire focus is on discussing the script with Mr Bachchan. After that, I will take the second step (of finalising the actress). At the moment, I can only confirm Mr Bachchan and Irrfan being part of my film officially," he says.
