The who’s who of Bollywood walked the red carpet and grooved the night away at the Zee Cine Awards 2014 in Mumbai on Saturday. Here we bring you some snippets from the show.
ON SATURDAY NIGHT, Film City in Mumbai came alive with the glitz and glamour of Bollywood’s best as they gathered for the 14th edition of the Zee Cine Awards. As is the norm in Bollywood, the event started late and went on for over five hours ending only at 3.30am the next morning. But the evening more than made up for it all with some scintillating performances by stars like Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh. Hosted by Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Manish Paul and Shah Rukh Khan, the event with its cleverly scripted dialogues and starry gigs proved every bit as entertaining as it promised to be.
When Sonakshi Sinha was announced as a winner at the latter end of the show, her, “I was not expecting it,” response was met with, “At 3am, we are always sure” from Abhishek Bachchan.
Despite doubts as to whether his recent injury on the sets of Happy New Year would keep him away from the stage, Shah Rukh Khan proved a huge draw when he turned magician on Saturday night. Right from his disappearing act, to producing a handkerchief from thin air, SRK ensured all eyes were on him. He introduced all the nominated best movies and even did a spoof of them. He danced, jumped and performed comic gigs centered around Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Dhoom 3 and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. One of the highlights of the evening was his tribute act to Aashiqui 2 music. He went on to challenge singer Ankit of Sun Raha Hoon fame from Aashiqui 2 to perform the alaap without music. The singer accepted the challenge and enthralled everyone with his vocals. SRK also partnered with comedian Bharti to raise laughs.

SRK was at his generous best praising Riteish Deshmukh and Abhishek Bachchan as the best hosts any show has ever seen. While most actors on the red carpet were looking forward to Ranveer’s retro act, Akshay Kumar’s bike stunt got the maximum applause from the audience, though it took place past 3am.
Even Sonakshi Sinha, who seems to have lost oodles of weight, sizzled on stage to Sawaar Loon from Lootera.
Vaani Kapoor of Shuddh Desi Romance fame came in with a fractured foot: “I am a clumsy person, I injured myself while gymming,” she told us while entering the red carpet.
Star of the moment Deepika Padukone shone on the red carpet in a Naeem Khan gown and a ‘Maang Tikka’ that gave her a regal appearance - a look that had her Chennai Express co-star Shah Rukh Khan refer to her as a princess and we can only agree. Styled by Anahita Shroff, Deepika has fast turned into an actress who is lauded for her on-screen talent and off-screen fashion credentials as well.
When we caught up with her on the red carpet, she told us: “I am looking forward to Ranveer Singh’s performance.” Hmmm....
Having spent the previous night up rehearsing her dance moves, she told us she had had only three hours of sleep before venturing to the red carpet in the company of her director Ayan Mukherjee.
“What can I say about 2013? It was a coincidence that all these movies (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express, Ram-Leela) released at the same time and did so well,” she added while talking to the media on the red carpet.
