Sorry Deepika, Priyanka Chopra takes the cake in Bajirao Mastani's 'Pinga'

Arguably, one of the more exciting things about Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas was the dance-off between Aishwarya Rai (Bachchan) and Madhuri Dixit in the catchy 'Dola Re'. That was in 2002; 13 years later, the prospect of another dance-off, between Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone in Bhansali's upcoming Bajirao Mastani, is equally exciting if not more.
There are far more similarities between 'Dola Re' and 'Pinga', the lavani number that Priyanka and Deepika dance off to, than differences (the song is being marketed as a lavani dance off, and melody has been lifted directly from the famous marathi lavani song, Latpat, Latpat). First of all, both actors wear the same clothes in both songs (a crimson red saree in 'Pinga' and a traditional red and white bengali saree in 'Dola re').
Both actors also share their love for one man (Shah Rukh Khan in Devdas and Ranveer Singh in Bajirao Mastani). It's almost as if in both songs, the two actors' are letting their personal differences aside to dance in the name of love.
There's also another crucial similarity. After the release of 'Dola re' most people had their favorites between Madhuri and Aishwarya. Some liked the classy, experienced performance of Dixit, while some prefered Aishwarya's freshness.
In 'Pinga', Priyanka plays Bajirao's first wife Kashibai, and therefore is so more susceptible to insecurity with a fellow lover aka sautan in her vicinity. Yet, she owns the screen. You are forced to look away from Deepika Padukone and focus on Priyanka, and that makes Priyanka the clear winner in this dance-off (because when was the last time you could take your eyes off Deepika for anything?). Brownie points, as it makes you wonder about Bajirao Mastani's story.
The song itself is as catchy as a lavani should be. Look out for quintessential Sanjay Leela Bhansali additions: Grand choreography, a grander set and demure looking women with exceptional dancing skills.
